The NSW school holidays have begun and with families venturing off on holidays to coincide with the Easter period, Dubbo Member-elect Dugald Saunders said following the basic road safety messages would be vital to staying safe.
"Unfortunately we have already seen 20 deaths on Western Region roads this year, including three in the past couple of weeks in and around Dubbo," Mr Saunders said.

"Our police will be out and about trying to ensure people are doing the right thing but there's only so much they can do.
"Ultimately it comes back to following the basic, common-sense messages of not speeding or drink-driving, wearing your seat belt, not using your phone while behind the wheel, and listening to your body and having a break if you feel fatigued."
There have been 114 lives lost on NSW roads so far this year, including six in April alone.
Of those, 79 were from country areas.
...I know the impact the loss of life can have on families, communities and the emergency service and medical personnel who are confronted with the tragedy.
- Dubbo Member-elect Dugald Saunders
The majority of road fatalities in 2019 have been 40 to 59-year-olds, followed by the 60 to 79-years-old age group.
Overall, there's been an added 12 deaths on NSW roads when comparing to the same time period last year.
"Over the course of my career as a journalist and broadcaster I have had to report on hundreds of car crashes, and I know the impact the loss of life can have on families, communities and the emergency service and medical personnel who are confronted with the tragedy," Mr Saunders said.
"One of the platforms of my election campaign was a desire to improve road safety in our electorate, and I hope people can enjoy a happy and safe holiday period with their loved ones."
Double demerits for the Easter break will start on Thursday, April 18 April and run until Monday, April 22.
