Actually make that the past few months.
It was August of last year when I was preselected to run for the seat of Dubbo in the state election, and last Thursday when I was officially declared as the winner, 12 days after the actual polling day.
The faith placed in me by the electorate of Dubbo is not lost on me, and it is now up to me to get on with representing the people of this region.
In saying that, I would firstly like to congratulate the other candidates in the election. Putting yourself out there to be judged by the community isn't easy and I think it's great so many people were willing to do that.
I would also like to thank my team, from my campaign director Peter Bartley right through to those who manned the campaign office and those that handed out information on polling day (or days in the case of early voting).
It takes a team to win an election and I had a terrific one.
The message coming out of the election is that this region shouldn't be taken for granted, and that is a message that myself, the Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Premier Gladys Berejiklian have heard loud and clear.
For the past eight years the Dubbo electorate has had record levels of spending and infrastructure thrown at it thanks to the good work of the former Member Troy Grant.
I thank him for having Dubbo, Wellington, Narromine, Mudgee and the surrounding areas in such a position of prosperity.
But there is more work to be done, and I am keen to set about meeting people and representing people.
My staff are already busy populating my diary with events to attend and constituents to meet, and my office is open for you to come in and talk about the things that affect your way of life.
It will be a steep learning curve and it will be a slow burn early but I am committed to delivering the things I promised during the campaign, and being part of a government that continues to deliver for NSW in general and the Dubbo electorate in particular.
Until next week,
Dugald
