The fate of St Mary's older year group has been left in limbo after the Bathurst Diocese announced intentions to review the school's secondary year group in response to declining student numbers.
Representatives of the diocese arranged two community consultation meetings for March and April after members of the Parents and Friends association expressed anger at the possibility that St Mary's might not continue their secondary education program.
An online petition started by Parents and Friends member Cherie Hughes currently has 944 signatures protesting the possible closure.

According to a diocese spokesperson, approximately seventy people were in attendance at the Infant de Prague hall during the meeting on March 28.
"The discussion centred on the recent enrolment trends and potential strategies moving forward," The spokesperson said.
"That Committee will now discern the key themes arising from the meeting and provide feedback to the school community at the next meeting, to be held at the St Mary's Catholic School, Wellington on Monday, April 8 at 7.00pm."
Wok Sheridan, who has several children at St Mary's expressed doubts that the planned meetings would be able to make much difference.
"I can't see how after ten years of declining numbers, they can expect us to get together a submission in ninety days and expect a favourable outcome," Mr Sheridan said.
"It was a little bit of a box-ticking exercise, a parent raised that question, and I said, this all feels like the amalgamation over again; you're not going to win no matter what you do."
"It's all about money, and they talk about business, we all know that you're not going to keep a business open if it's losing half a million a year."
"It's our children's lives they're messing with."
