Recent rain has only improved the track conditions at the Wellington Racecourse ahead of the upcoming Wellington Boot Racing Carnival set for April 6 and 7.

Wellington Race Club Vice President Jared Wykes called the conditions 'a bit of a blessing in disguise' and remarked that the track was in 'good condition' in the lead up to the year's big racing event.
"Everything's on track at the minute, it'll just be a matter of waiting until next week," Mr Wykes said.

"There's still a bit of a list to get through, but we're mostly just waiting on bookings to come through. Obviously nominations are still coming, we won't know exactly what horses will be there until they're finished up."
While everything hasn't quite been finalised yet, Mr Wykes was optimistic that once again, everything would play out in the racing club's favor with all the makings of another banner year for the committee.
"We're always looking to improve, there's always upgrades going on behind the scene, it's hard when you're competing against the main championships and qualifiers in Sydney, so we never know if there's going to be a big crowd, you never know if they're going to stick around and buy local or head to Sydney."
"You have to overdo a few things in case you do get that big crowd on the day, last year I thought we'd go a bit lower, but we ended up probably a thousand more."
The Boot Race Committee have prepared a number of familiar entertainment acts for the day, and are hoping to surprise with a few new opportunities.
"You've got your entertainment, you've always got your fashion on the fields, you've got the pick the program, where you'll be able to win a Toyota this year."
One surprise is the raffle ticket draw, with a top prize that will give entrants the opportunity to win a stake in a Matthew Smith trained racing horse, worth a five percent share valued at over $15,000.
"That's a bit of a new one," Mr Wykes said.
"If that person doesn't have a horse, or has never had one before, it gets them involved."
The Lachlan Valley Railway will be returning with their steam engine service this year, offering trips from Dubbo and Stuart Town into Wellington for the races.
"You can have a few drinks pre-race or on the way home on a bit of old-fashioned train," Mr Wykes said.
"The people last year said they had an absolute blast."
