Dubbo Regional Council has $321,000 for the walking track. It will go between Cameron Park, Bell park, Pioneer Park and past the Wellington Showground to Brennan's Way.

Council will spend $150,000 to extend the current path network from Cameron to Bell Park. Another $171,000 will go to start the work from Pioneer Park to the Brennan's Way section. More funding will be needed to complete the loop.

The new path will eventually include the renewal of the Cameron Park pedestrian bridge, however at this stage Dubbo Regional Council hasn't finalised the design or the cost.

Dubbo Regional mayor Ben Shields said he had received a lot of feedback about the pedestrian bridge.

"It's certainly a piece of infrastructure that is needed and has been cried out for by the Wellington community. They've said it loud and clear to us on a number of occasions now," Cr Shields said.

"This goes to show we're getting on with the job."

The path will allow for parkrun to be established in Wellington. It will also be used for the Mount Arthur Challenge and as a safer connection to the showground.

"We know from our experience in Dubbo that those walking tracks around rivers are particularly well used by the public," Cr Shields said.

"This is certainly good news and as for as I'm concerned the sooner we can roll this out the better."

As part of the redevelopment of the walking track, about 20 trees will need to be removed between Pioneer Park and Brennan's Way that are located under powerlines. They will be replaced with other trees.

Excluding the bridge, the work could be finished in September.
