Instead of the usual raffle for a yearling, the Wellington Race Club are changing things up this year and are offering the chance to win a 5 per cent share (worth over $9000) in a two year old filly from Darby Racing to be trained by Mathew Smith. The overall prize value is more than $15,000 and includes all ongoing costs are covered for the first two years such as agistment, training, vetting and insurance, which means you do not have to pay a cent.
Wellington Race Club President, Ian Darney, said the competition was a great change to the usual raffle and the club was excited to have Darby Racing on board. "Darby Racing have been nothing but great to deal with. This beautiful filly is in her first prep and has a lot of potential". Tickets are $25 each or 11 for $250 and will be sold at the races with the winner to be drawn after the Wellington Boot race.

Those with more creative ability will get a chance to have their artwork included as part of the Wellington Boot Race Art Competition. After a hiatus the art competition has returned as part of a cooperative effort between the Wellington Race Club and Wellington Arts.
Artists are invited to enter their own artworks into the competition with the winning artwork to be used as the basis for next years Wellington Boot marketing campaign. With the winner to be decided by the Wellington Race Club itself, Vice President Jared Wykes said that after looking at the previous competitions and artworks by popular winner Di Thatcher, it was decde dto ring the competition back. "Up to $1500 will be paid for the winning artwork, which must be themed around racing and feature the number 2020," he said. Entry forms are available online with the closing date for artwork submissions is Monday, April 1 by 4.30pm at the Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club.
