But after a barnstorming performance in Saturday night's trial win over Wynnum, he may have forced coach Anthony Seibold into a rethink.
Staggs was the Broncos' best against the Queensland Cup side on Saturday, while his goalkicking is another added string to his bow.

That could be particularly handy for Seibold following Jordan Kahu's departure to the Cowboys.
Staggs started in the centres with Jack Bird on Saturday with the former Shark tipped by most to partner James Roberts in the Broncos' season opener at Melbourne on March 14.
The Broncos led 12-0 at half-time and early in the second stanza Staggs showed his exciting talent when bursting through on the right edge to score his side's third.
He continued to be a threat and kicked three goals in the 26-12 victory.
The strong showing continues a massive pre-season for Staggs, one which also included a place in the Indigenous All Stars team earlier this month.
“I'd love to always be in that starting team but just being in the 17 is the goal,” Staggs told the Wellington Times in the build-up to the All Stars game.
