Punters and racing connections alike will be hoping to bust the drought in more ways than one at the Gilgandra Jockey Club’s Tooraweenah Cup day event on Saturday.
Exactly 100 nominations were received for the six-race meeting, including a stunning 23 in the Drought Buster Maiden Handicap (1200 metres).
Mudgee’s Brett Thompson nominated Alotafox and Kenneth, both of whom have been knocking on the door.
Alotafox boasts two second placings from seven starts, the filly falling short twice by identical margins.
The Foxwedge x Ultima Carta progeny finished just 0.39 lengths behind Sharon Jeffries’ Ligny in the QUBE Logistics Maiden Handicap (1000m) at Warren.
She then lost to stablemate Moon Over Menah by 0.39 lengths at Gilgandra’s New Year meeting.
Kenneth has recorded five minor placings from 13 starts, including a third at Gilgandra on January 6.
But he’s not the only nominated starter in good form.
The Justin Stanley-trained Gillie Mooch thundered back from a 29-week spell with a win at Wellington on Boxing Day, recording another win and a second placing since then.
Rodney Robb’s Blue Channel is set to resume from a 27-week spell, one she rounded out with a second and two wins.
