Christmas gifts arrived early for the Jeffries and Stanley families with each winning a race at Warren on Friday. Strapped by Dale Jeffries, trained at Parkes by his wife Sharon Jeffries and ridden by their daughter Tiffany Jeffries, Ligny won the 1000 metres QUBE Logistics Maiden Handicap.

From behind the leaders, Ligny ($10) attacked when turning for home and after a three horse battle won by a long neck from Alotafox (Tony Cavallo,$6) and Ready’s Best (Kath Bell-Pitomac,$17).
Apprentice jockey Ashleigh Stanley then rode Leap Of Legend for her Bathurst based mum and dad, Peter.W.Stanley (trainer) and Melissa Eassie (strapper) in the 1400 metres Landmark Benchmark 58 Handicap. Leap Of Legend ($9) led all the way for a half length win over Prettylittlefellow (Jake Pracey-Holmes-Holmes,$4.80) with Stravali (Eleanor Webster-Hawes,$61) two and a half lengths away third.
Former top jockey Kody Nestor continued his successful transition to a Dubbo based trainer when Music Miss (Tony Cavallo,$8) took control at the top of the straight and was a convincing winner of the Penrite/MCC Hydraulics Class 1 Handicap (1200 metres) from The Long Run (Ashleigh Stanley,$31) and Court In Camera (Mathew Cahill,$5.50).
The Connie Greig, Dubbo-trained Raheen Lady ($4.40 fav) was then ridden strongly by Andrew Banks to edge past the leader Wide Eyed and then hold off the fast finishing New York Philly and Star Of Zizou (Kath Bell-Pitomac,$6) in the 1000 metres Macquarie Valley Ag Services Benchmark 50 Handicap.
Halfway down the straight, Maximoo and jockey Tony Cavallo had a heavy fall however it appeared both horse and rider escaped serious injury.
Dubbo Twilight meeting on Friday to be followed by Bathurst on Saturday, Wellington on Boxing Day and the Macquarie Picnics at Trangie on Saturday, December 29. The Gilgandra Cup Carnival on Tuesday January 1 and Sunday January 6 kicks off racing in 2019.

WEDNESDAY BOWLS: Eight Bowlers took to the Greens in last Wednesday’s Jackpot Bowls. Winners on the day were Graham Cope & Ian Humphries who defeated Glen Porter & norm Johnston 26 – 6 Runners up were Jason O’Brien & Kevin Stanley who defeated Dave Wilson & Ron Oxenham 16 – 14

GOLF
Wellington Golf Club saw 50 golfers hit the fairways last Saturday with plenty of dust around with Stroke event being played plus round 3 of the Kierle's Pharmacy summer competition. AGM will be held this Saturday night from about 6.30pm, can every member of the Wellington Golf Club please attend.
This Saturdays events are an Aggregate Par plus round 4 of the Kierles Pharmacy Summer Competition, all teams are reminded that fees for the summer comp are due this week, points will be deducted from this week, the starters this week are Maurie's Mates.
All golfers are reminded that Pennants are beginning shortly if you would like to play please see the Captain as he will direct you to the appropriate person to contact. Winner last Saturday with a 70 off the stick was Kurt Cusack who is hitting the ball superbly at the moment, nett score 68.
Runner-up was Elton Keeffe who fired an even par round, 69 nett but his temper will be tested giving a coaching lesson this week to one of the locals.

Stubberfield Toyota terrific tee shot on the 3rd went it to Matt Reid 3mts, on the 8th it went to Ashley Bullock 2.86mts, on the 14th it went to Ashley Bullock 369 ctms, on the 16th it went to Errol Flood.
Gersbachs Mechanical nearest the pin in 2 shots on the 15th hole went to Matt Shepharc who put it 82cmts away from the hole.
McDonald's biggest whack in A grade went to Matt Reid and in B grade it went to Rod McMahon.
Brent's NFI award winner last Saturday was Trevor Messenger who had a shocker, but he was blaming something he swallowed the day before, his final score was 91nett.

Thursdays Twilight golf competition has seen rounds 8, 9 and 10 being played with a combined total of over 100 golfers turning out with Gary McNaughton winning round 8 with a 27nett, John Donnelly winning round 9 with a 29nett and Paul McCaroll winning round 10 with a mystery score with the mystery hole going off each week with Jimmy Armstrong winning 4 cold one's followed by Cameron Batho claiming 2, but it was squared in round 10.
Raffle winners have been Brent Eather twice and Brad Taylor, see everybody on the front 9 holes this week.

Eight Members participated in our weekly swim at the GEURIE POOL on Tuesday December 11 despite the inclement weather. Terry Dray took out the 25 Metre event being 0.02 outside his nominated time. While Peter Ryan took out the 50 metre event being 0.08 outside his nominated time. Bonni Sheridan & Amy Ryan won the Junior Events. Charlotte & Peter Ryan combined to win the Brace Relay being 3.28 outside their time.
Swimming continues at the Geurie Pool each week commencing at 6.30pm sharp.We ask that members make an effort to be early to prevent us running overtime for the time allocated.
Events will be 25 & 50 for Juniors and Seniors as well as the 2 x 50 metre Brace Relay draw for partners. New Members are welcome with the proviso that they are members of the Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club and for Juniors to compete a family member must also compete on the night. The 2019 Western District AIF Championships will be held in Condobolin on Sunday 10 February 2019. Cost for this trip is $60 per person and is required to be paid by Tuesday 15 January 2019.
The 2019 National AIF Championships will be held in Victoria on Saturday 2nd March 2019. Nominations close on 4 February 2019.
