Linda and Robert Bucci might have the Wellington Times and Daily Liberal to thank for helping them finally tie the knot decades ago, but the couple who made national headlines in the 90’s with their newspaper proposal credit Linda’s Wellington upbringing with their cheery disposition and good fortune.

The star-crossed pair met in the early nineties when both were travelling back to where they were staying, Linda to her hometown of Wellington and Robert to his work in Dubbo.
“He was chatting up the air hostess and I said, ‘Oh, I’m from Wellington,’ and he wasn’t very impressed and I said, ‘That’s near Dubbo,” Mrs Bucci said.
“An hour later we met again on a different plane, so it was fate. We exchanged numbers and I thought, ‘Well, we’ll see.’”
The pair crossed paths again and again over the years, before finally Robert placed ads in the Wellington Times and Daily Liberal proposing to Linda.
“It went as far as the Sydney Morning Herald, but were interviewed by the Liberal after the ad was posted in the Times,” Mrs Bucci said.
Speaking of her up-bringing, Mrs Bucci has fond memories of the people and places that shaped her early life.
“Wellington made me a happier person, more of a happy-go-lucky person that wants to help people. If I was raised in the city, I wouldn’t be that person at all,” Mrs Bucci said.
“The people there are just kinder. “
