A community project by Dubbo Men's Sheds’ Geoff Higgins is calling for residents from all around the region to contribute to a unique donation drive aimed at alleviating poverty conditions in the Philippines.

“Over 50 percent of the residents of the Philippines are living below the poverty line,” Mr Higgins said.
The community committee effort is attempting to provide used computers and sewing machines in usable condition to communities in need of educational resources and income outlets.

“We’re sending sewing machines mainly to squatter areas, where the people are battling to make an income, so they do sewing and such to make an income and provide for themselves,” Mr Higgins said.
“The committee has also been obtaining donations of good, used computers and sending them to the Philippines for the use of high school students in need.”
The efforts have already seen over 1200 computers and 400 sewing machines sent overseas to charities located in the Philippines.
“We send sewing machines to Christian Compassion Ministries Foundation, which is a foundation under the umbrella of Cubao Reformed Baptist Church,” Mr Higgins said.

“It is a registered charity answerable to the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission.”
Mr Higgins has also expressed interest in computer monitors, and similar equipment in working condition to supplement the computers being donated.
