The $100,000 grant was made possible through the Clubgrants Category Three Infrastructure Program and will provide each of the sporting grounds with improvements.
At Rygate Park the cricket oval will benefit from new cricket nets that will allow teams to train at the oval more easily and all three sporting grounds will gain trailer and wicket cover in order to provide the pitches with protection during wet weather.
All three sporting grounds will also receive a brand new electronic scoreboard that will offer multi-purpose use to any game that takes place there, including cricket, soccer and rugby matches.
Former Australian Women’s Team player Marie Cornish of the Wellington District Cricket Association had been trying for nearly five years to secure funding for the new netting, and nearly three years for the scoreboards.
We've been very fortunate that everyone supports everything that we try and do.

Mrs Cornish was very optimistic that the improved grounds would alleviate some of the pressure on parents to travel around and take children to sporting events in the region.
“We've been very fortunate that everyone supports everything that we try and do here in town,” Mrs Cornish said.
“The parents are probably getting a bit sick of having to travel everywhere, but we're a small town and everyone does nearly 10 different sports throughout the year, so we’re very grateful for the support.”
“Make sure you’re letting your friends know that this is the place to be,” Mr Saunders said.
She also thanked Nationals candidate Dugald Saunders for his support.
