Good news for Wellington last week with two of the town’s biggest attractions taking another step forward. The first sod was turned at Wellington Memorial Pool while the DA for works at the Wellington Caves were also approved and that is two exciting landmarks.

Hines Construction will now begin work on the all-new Olympic pool and aquatic centre that will be completed within 12 months to ensure the pool is open for the 2019-20 swimming season.
I understand that some people will be impacted this season but thinking about the big picture, it will give Wellington the swimming facility it deserves and another tourist attraction.
The development at the Caves is just as exciting. There is a great new Visitor Experience Centre and the entrance will be modernised to bring it up to a fitting standard. Geurie also received some new infrastructure with a state of the art watering system being installed at Tom Culkin Oval.
The sprinkler system can be controlled by Dubbo Regional Council staff from anywhere because it is internet-based. That means that a change in conditions mean additional watering is needed, it can be organised without a staff member needing to be there and monitoring it.
Likewise, if it is raining (and we hope it does plenty of that) staff can council turn the sprinklers off to avoid water wastage.
The projects were courtesy of the State Government’s Stronger Communities Fund, relating to the merger of the former Dubbo City and Wellington Shire Councils.
This funding has been instrumental in fixing up some of Wellington’s ageing facilities and bringing in some exciting new projects.
I thank the State Government for allocating the money and I am sure Wellington residents appreciate this much-needed funding boost. We are fortunate the State Government is in a strong financial position and we will continue to lobby for more funding for the region.
