Work on the Wellington caves is expected to begin in November later this year and will involve an estimated investment of $4.2 million dollars, including the funding already provided by the state government.
The project is expected to be completed in April 2019 and will involve several significant upgrades to the visitor and welcoming area aimed at improving the customer experience for tourists as well an educational ‘Discovery Lab’ area and a megafauna exhibition.
The upgrades to the caves were announced alongside funding for the Memorial Pool.
“The Caves has the potential to significantly increase the number of guests the site hosts and the improved infrastructure this project delivers will help support that growth with an improvement on the quality of the experience,” A council spokesperson said.
