Lovett arrived in Wellington in the early afternoon and was presented with a cheque by members of the local Lion’s club after the group held a trivia night with auctions and prizes in order to assist in fund-raising.
Wellington represents one of the first stops on the cancer survivor’s 800km journey which will last fifteen days and take her from Dubbo through Geurie, Wellington, Mudgee, Trangie, Narromine and other towns before returning to Dubbo on October 21.
“I understand the difficulty of leaving home and family to travel long distances for cancer treatment,” Mrs Lovett said.
“The new cancer centre in Dubbo will bring life-saving treatment much closer to home, which will have a really postive impact on patients and their families.”
Funds raised by the ride will go towards the oncology centre’s Wellness unit.
