Owner and operator Marilyn Keirle wanted a ‘happy day, mostly just to thank people’; there were also free sample-packs of skincare products for women and other fun giveaways.
“We’ve all been so thankful to people for their patronage over the years,” Mrs Keirle said.
The 1930’s Spanish style building has stood on Warne Street since it was first built over 70 years ago.
Until 1996 the site housed Sacred Heart’s school.
“It was empty for a few years and I used to drive past and think ‘gosh, I wish someone would do something with that lovely little building,” Mrs Keirle said.
The Cactus cafe opened in October 1998, but Mrs Keirle didn’t expect the success they’ve had.
“We didn’t really know what we were doing, we were just trying to make people happy.”
