Lilly Clarke and Demi Owens started playing for their school team last year and from there, they were selected to trial as part of the fifteen New South Wales teams competing for a place in the national competition’s team roster.
“You can’t go any higher than that for these girls,” St. Mary’s sports coordinator Alistaire Thompson said.
“This is the first time in twenty years that two girls from the same school have been selected to compete.”
The girls have never traveled outside of Wellington, but they’ll be competing against teams from every other state and territory when the nationals competition begins on October 21.
“I don’t think it’s really sunk in for them that they’re playing for New South Wales. To get to go to Tasmania and compete nationally is just huge for them.”
