Long-serving volunteer Rae Batho and her team of volunteers are looking forward to what they say is always a receptive response from the community.
“We have a lot of people who have been affected or who have lost someone to cancer who come and purchase something.” She hopes to beat last year’s total of $2200. “My goal is always to better it, but whatever we raise is a bonus.”
They will be selling Daffodil Day merchandise from 9am until 1pm on Friday, August 24. Merchandise includes fresh daffodils, badges, pens, teddy bears and more.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you all on Friday,” Rae said.
Wellington is one of more than 650 sites across NSW that will be in full swing, staffed by caring volunteers.
This year marks 31 years of Daffodil Day in Australia. As one of the largest national fundraising events in the Southern Hemisphere, this year Cancer Council hopes to raise $2.1m in NSW.
“By supporting Daffodil Day today, locals contribute to life-saving cancer research, prevention programs, support services and advocacy programs,” Brianna Carracher from Cancer Council NSW Western Region.
“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, with 1 in 2 Australians predicted to be diagnosed by age 85. We encourage everyone to make a difference by supporting Cancer Council this week.”
