They welcomed Orana Spurs, with both teams hoping to nab a victory now they were back on home soil.
The second grade boys took to the field first and enjoyed a strong first half in which they created numerous chances but in what has become a strong theme throughout their season no one was able to get the ball across the line.
The second half started poorly for Wellington with Spurs able to take the lead through a piece of fortuitous play. The score was soon two nil as Wellington failed to deal with a cross and the ball found its way into the net.
Late on Harry Broome won a spot penalty for Wellington but he was unable to convert, to make matters worse, Spurs then went the length of the field to score and make it three nil.
Next up the first grade boys took the field. The boys started the game very strongly and looked likely to score first, however, some miscommunication in the Wellington defence quickly saw the boys down two nil.
The remainder of the half was fairly even with the only difference being Spurs were able to convert their chances into goals and as such the score was 4 nil at the break.
After the break the Wellington boys continued to work hard for each other, but similar to the second boys they just were not able to convert chances into goals. In the end Spurs ran out winners eight goals to nil.
Women's
This week only ones girls team was in action as the Warriors girls were enjoying a sleep in as they had the bye. Meanwhile the Wildcats took on the undefeated RSL 78s.
As such on Sunday the Wildcats took on Dubbo RSL in what was always going to be a tough encounter for the wildcats. The first half was played to a very high standard right across the paddock.
RSL were able to create a few more chances but the Wildcats defence held strong led by our courageous captain Jane Winter.
One of our midfield starsChloe Turner, had one of the more difficult jobs holding RSL’s speed machine in the middle but as always Chloe was up to the task and was able to limit her opportunities.
RSL were, however, finally able to break down the Wildcats defence around the 40 minute mark with a great through ball for the winger who made the most of her chance and we went into halftime down 1 nil.
The second half started similarly but this time we had our own speed machine Mel Gleeson back on the pitch fresh off a plane from Thailand.
The Wildcats created a few more chances and a great cross from Jess Kitch unfortunately could not be finished off.
RSL then pressed again heavily and in the space of ten minutes we lost both Madi Hannelly and Yamira Talbot to ankle injuries and with no subs the cats tried to hold on but RSL netted their second goal with about 15 to go and held on for a 2-0 victory.
In what was one of our best performances of the season, against a quality team our players player was Nyoka Boney. Her awesome goal keeping skills kept us in the game.
