Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party (SFF) MLC Robert Borsak said Mr Grant was a failure and was getting out before being voted out.
“Troy Grant has failed his electorate, and the people of Dubbo deserve a chance to vote him out at the ballot box,” he said.
“Mr Grant resigning at the election has denied them that right.
“Let’s not forget that Troy Grant was the architect of banning greyhound racing, cuts to the Police Force, and pushed for the forced merger of rural Councils.”
Mr Grant announced on Twitter that he would not be running at the state election due in March 2019.
“After almost 30 years in combined public service as a NSW police officer and parliamentarian, I have made the decision not to contest the 2019 state election,” he said.
“Running for Parliament in 2019 is not the right decision for my family or me. To serve your community as a regional MP you need to make enormous sacrifices and put your heart and soul into the role, and I can no longer give this role my all after the next election.”
Mr Borsak said The Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party would run a candidate in Dubbo at the next election.
“The Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party is in the middle of preselecting a candidate, and we will be making an announcement shortly,” he said.
“We keep hearing that people in Dubbo are fed up with being taken for granted by Troy Grant and the National Party. Dubbo deserves better.”
