The eager Wildcats side took on Newtown looking for some redemption after last week’s heartbreaking loss to the Bulls.
As such the girls were able to score a convincing 3-1 win, however the scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of the game as the girls dominated from start to finish in a game which saw Wellington create numerous chances on goal in both halves but were unable to fully capitalise on their chances.
Two new goal keepers were put to the test this week, giving Nyoka Boney a chance out on the pitch and she didn’t disappoint, scoring all three of Wellington's goals.
Yamira and Mel G also earned a shoutout for taking the gloves for the day.
The weekend’s game had a few knocks and bruises, but overall Wellington’s defence stood strong and kept Newtown to one goal in what was a fantastic overall team effort.
Newcomers to the team are beginning to find their feet.
Player of the match for Round 2 went to Nyoka Boney.
In the other women’s match the Warriors took on the Bulls in what was to become a very physical and heated affair.
The Bulls started strong but time and time again they were repulsed by some outstanding defence by the Warriors girls, however, on 20 minutes the Bulls finally broke down Wellington’s defence and opened their account for the day. This led to two more goals before the break.
Wellington went into second half with a determined plan and as a result created several chances early on, but as the game continued it become an increasingly physical affair and the Bulls dominated play to secure a 9-nil win.
Player of the game was Tarni Hawkins.
In the men’s division second grade lost 2-1 and first grade went down 4-2.
