Try this hot toddy tonic
‘Proper Lemsip’:
Ingredients: Makes 1 serve. Ready in 10 Minutes. 250 ml just-boiled water. 1 cinnamon stick. 2 cloves. 2.5 cm piece of fresh ginger root, sliced. 1 tablespoon. honey. 1 sliced lemon. 2 tablespoon. whisky.
Method: Add all ingredients to a small teapot or glass and leave for 5 minutes. Once infused, enjoy right away.
The name ‘toddy’ comes from Tods well, a spring on Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh.
The scots originally made toddies to make their whisky more palatable, but even after refining the distilling methods, they kept their fondness for this tonic, after realising that drinking it regularly both prevented and relieved colds.
