Dubbo Regional Council’s Director of Operations, Chris Devitt, said contractors are currently placing foundation piles at the site.

The proposed completion date for the project is mid-April, weather depending. 

This project involves replacing the original timber bridge on the Renshaw McGirr Way with a two-lane concrete bridge which can accommodate higher mass limit vehicles.

The $1.24 million project was jointly funded by the NSW Government through the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program and the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.

“This is an important piece of infrastructure as the Renshaw McGirr Way is a regional road which passes through highly productive farmland and provides a link between the Mitchell and Newell highways,” Mr Devitt said.

“It will improve freight transport by allowing heavy vehicle access between Wellington and Parkes.”

Member for Dubbo, Troy Grant, said the NSW Government is committed to funding vital road and bridge upgrades that provide better connections from local and roads to state highways and key freight hubs.

“Freight is worth $60 billion to the NSW economy, and so we are proud to be investing in projects like the Gundy Creek Bridge replacement that will help boost this industry,” Mr Grant said.

“This project will increase productivity for primary producers transporting their goods across the region and improve the safety of the local road network for vehicles of all sizes.”

The NSW Government has reserved $500 million for the Fixing Country Roads program over multiple funding rounds.
