Jesse Mills was acknowledged for his reputation as a very diligent student who is heavily involved in academic, extracurricular and sporting activities.
On accepting the award Jesse thanked those who have assisted him along the way.
"It's very humbling to be considered worthy of such an award,” he said. “The amount of opportunities I've gotten from people who don't have to do that, there's too many to mention, but all of them deserve awards like this.”
Among Jesse’s growing list of achievements include being elected as school captain of St Mary’s Catholic School in 2016. He was a member of the Positive Behaviour Committee, and also co-chaired the St Mary’s Student Representative Council. In 2017 Jesse was awarded Dux of St Mary’s, as well as the Long Tan Leadership Award, the Best All Rounder, the Infigen Energy Science and Technology Award, and Student of the Year. He also participated in the Mock Trial program - run by the Law Society of NSW - as a Barrister, competing successfully against Year 11 and 12 students from other schools in an effort to learn about the law and legal profession.
Jesse is a keen sportsman whose passion lies with rugby union, particularly that of local club the Wellington Redbacks which he co-captained in 2016 prior to being awarded the Most Consistent Forward.
Jesse also brings a strong presence to the touch football field in both school and town teams, and has represented Polding at the State Athletics Championships in javelin.
At the 2017 St Mary’s Scholic School’s presentation evening, Jesse was awarded the Senior Sportsperson Award.
“Jesse sets and outstanding example to other students and young people at all times,” Mr Griggs said.
“He is a leader of his school community, the sporting community and of the wider community and is a very deserving recipient of the 2018 Young Citizen of the Year Award.”
