Wellington’s Benjamin Austin OAM and Brian Palmer of Geurie are among the 17 representatives chosen to carry the baton through the local government area on January 30.
Celebrations will align to the essence of the Commonwealth Games to celebrate community pride and create excitement around sports and culture.
Dubbo Regional Council mayor, Ben Shields, said free community celebrations are being planned for Wellington on January 30 to herald the arrival of the baton.
“Arrangements are being put in place to herald the arrival of the Baton and will include community celebrations in Cameron Park in Wellington and Victoria Park in Dubbo” Mr Shields said.
“Cameron Park in Wellington will showcase our Aboriginal heritage, while Victoria Park will come alive with exhibitions by local groups and associations, keen to promote and encourage residents to participate in sport and wellbeing activities on offer across the LGA.
“I encourage everyone to come along and witness this momentous occasion, cheer on our local batonbearers and join in one of these community celebrations.”
Celebrations will be held between 1pm and 2pm in Cameron Park with the Baton arriving on site between 1.50pm and 2pm.
Wellington and Geurie Lions Clubs will be serving free sausage sandwiches proudly supported by Woolworths. Woolworths will also be providing free water and fresh fruit.
