The barbecue was organised by Governor Craig Smith in an effort to recognise the important work staff do, with over 110 people attending.
For Mr Smith, who was officially appointed Governor of Wellington Correctional Centre on Friday, the highlight was the camaraderie among staff from different areas of the prison.
“It was a wonderful occasion for staff to take a brief respite from their duties,” Mr Smith said.
“And it was also a chance to enjoy rissoles, sausages, pasta, potato and garden salads, along with cold drinks, all prepared and served by Principals David Wake and Paul Madden.”
Mr Smith thanked all those who attended the service, and acknowledged them for the hard and often challenging work they endure in keeping the community safe.
“I am proud to lead you, and even prouder to work with you,” Mr Smith said.
