Major art work of two Wellington High School students will be put on show this week at the ‘Make Your Mark’ exhibition in Dubbo.

Makeylee Brien and Sophie Hawke’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) visual arts major projects will feature in the exhibition at the Western Planes Cultural Centre alongside artwork from across the Dubbo Regional Council shire.
Sophie’s artist statement claims her work, ‘Heritage’, is a hand-drawn ‘Manga’ based in an Australian setting. Sources of ideas come from Norse mythology, Japan, Scandinavia and Italy.
In Makeylee’s work, Modern Man, she expresses the pressure placed on men to hide their emotion. “My work explores the nature of the ‘modern man’, as society is attempting to rewrite ideals and encourage men to express themselves,” her statement reads.
Visual arts teacher, Noel Dewsbery, said it is a huge coup for the students’ work to feature in the exhibition.
“There would be very few artists who have their work displayed in a regional gallery like the one in Dubbo,” he said.
