The Dubbo Regional Council mayor has welcomed players and spectators in Dubbo for the NSW Indigenous Touch Championships, a locally grown event organised by the Western Aboriginal Health Corporation in Wellington.

With the competition being held at the APEX Oval over three days, Councillor Ben Shields said the event not only contributes significantly to the economy, but also further cements the region as a premier location for national sporting competitions.
“There are 21 teams from throughout NSW and as far away as Perth and it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Dubbo’s top class sporting facilities,” Clr Shields said.
“With an estimated 500 visitors to Dubbo for the competition, the economic benefit to the local economy will be in excess of $63,000.
“Apex Oval has established a reputation as having the ability to attract high-calibre events and this competition is no exception.
“While in its inaugural year, there is a view to hold the event in Dubbo every year and this would be a very welcome outcome.”
The NSW Indigenous Touch Championships is being held at Apex Oval on November 9, 10 and 11.
