Wellington Library | 50 year milestone for Burrendong Dam

50 years ago in August 1967 construction of Burrendong Dam, one of the largest in NSW was finally completed. Burrendong Dam employed hundreds of men and took 21 years to complete. The library is hosting a special event on Wednesday 16 August at 11am to commemorate this milestone with guest speakers, including representatives from Water NSW, talking about the operation, history and construction of Burrendong Dam.

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of John Oxley’s exploration of the Macquarie River in 1817, Macquarie Regional Library is hosting a special talk on John Oxley and the Wellington Valley on Friday 18 August at 11am presented by Curators from the State Library of NSW. Original maps and journals from John Oxley’s 1817 expedition will also be on display. Both events will be followed by light refreshments. Please call the library on 6845 2156 if you would like to attend either of these events.
