Wednesday Bowls: Seventeen bowlers took to the Greens in last Wednesday’s Jackpot Bowls. Winners on the day were Jack Charlton, Garth Watts and Rob Harvey who defeated Brian Charlton, John Gersbach and Dave Stace. Runners up were Charlie Morley and Richard Carpenter who defeated Mo Clare and Peter Baker. Other results were Allan Manning and Jason Robbins defeated Don Graham and Mick Buttsworth, Glen Porter and Trevor Elemes defeated Ross Pharo amd Terry Dray.

Coming Up: This Weekend Richard Carpenter (Singles). Dave Stace and Peter Baker (Pairs) will be representing the Club at Dubbo City in the Champion of Champion events.

Pennants: Congratulations to our Grade Seven teams on a great performance at the State Finals played at Taren Point last Friday and Saturday. Although we did not make the Semi Finals we managed to win two out of three games in the Sectional playoffs. Our first game against Camden resulted in a 64–43 win 9-1, in our second game we met the eventual section winners in East Maitland who took this match 46–71. Our last game was against Cooma and we emerged victors 71–53.  The final pointscore in our section was East Maitland 27.5 Wellington 19 Cooma 11.5 and Camden 2. Thanks goes to Tracey Reid who carried out the team Mangers duty over the weekend which included looking after the Score Boards in the three games and handling all our problems.

The under 13s made the long trip to Bathurst on Saturday and probably wished they hadn’t after being brutalised by their much stronger opponent our boys were not in the game with the exception of one converted try scored by Will Deshon which ended their day with an 83 to seven score line. Under 15s were in Dubbo for their game but also ran into some tough opposition with the Blues running out victors 42 to 13. Our 17s travelled to Mudgee with both teams fighting to keep their season alive, Wellington fought the good fight but with some key personnel missing due to injury were unable to get the job done. The Redbacks are still in the hunt for the finals but will now be relying on other results to go their way. Final score 31 to 19. Next week 13s play Emus Friday night in Orange, under 15s play Narromine/Parkes at Montefiores, under 17s versus Dubbo Blue in Dubbo, Walla carnival Sunday at Milthorpe.

If there was one moment which optimised Sunday’s Group 11 top of the table clash it came with 12 minutes to go when CYMS captain and stalwart Luke Jenkins carted the ball up only to be hit under the ribs by Nyngan prop Rod Coates and driven into the turf.

Nyngan was too big, too strong and too committed on Sunday as it breathed life into the 2017 Group 11 competition with an outstanding 14-0 win over the previously undefeated Dubbo CYMS. All the points came in the first half before Nyngan, cheered home by a huge amount of support at Larkin Oval, raced out of the blocks before producing one of the great defensive efforts in the second stanza as the Fishies came at them time and time again.

“As a club, that was probably one the best wins they have ever had,” Tigers captain-coach Stewart Mills said of his side and the fans. We had all the old boys down here and that was all for them today. We knew it was going to be tough and we made it hard for ourselves but we got there in the end.”

CYMS captain Luke Jenkins denied the loss was a concerning one for his side but said it was a wake-up call and probably one the team needed after countless dominant victories. The Tigers produced an intense effort for the full 80 minutes, something CYMS has seen little of in an opposition this season.

“It’s pretty disappointing but full credit to Nyngan. They played great and they’re definitely going to be hard to beat,” he said, with a mouth-watering major semi-final rematch in two weeks. We would have liked to have played a bit better footy out here today but if you play games like this every week you’re going to improve while when you’re winning by 50 you can forget your weaknesses and we got taught a lesson today.”

Nyngan began the match perfectly, with a Jacob Neill bomb leading to a forced drop out inside three minutes and shortly after workhorse Benny Cokanasgia muscled his way across to open the scoring. The Tigers soon received back-to-back penalties and opted to take the two on the second occasion and Sam Simmons’ boot made it 8-0. The match, which had plenty of feeling all game and was played in a real finals atmosphere, turned into an arm wrestle and there was moments of push and shove before CYMS got into a fine attacking opportunity. But the ball went to ground 5m from the line and winger Simmons scooped the ball up and couldn’t be caught, racing away to set up a 14-0 lead. CYMS hammered the line time and time again in the second half, forcing numerous dropouts, but the Tigers held firm and the crowd erupted when referee Simon Hartas blew fulltime.

Northern Division: Wellington Redbacks 36 defeated Yeoval Eagles 22. Molong Magpies 34 defeated Coolah Roos 12. Geurie Goats 20 defeated Trangie Tigers 17.

Southern Division: Blayney Rams defeated Condobolin Rams Via Forfeit. Cootamundra Tri-colours 29 defeated Grenfell Panthers 7. Temora Tuskers 22 defeated West Wyalong Weevils 19.

Women’s: West Wyalong Weevils 42 defeated Temora Tuskers 12.
