Passengers who escaped injury in the train smash told of their horror and confusion as they arrived back home in Sydney, the headline story in metro newspapers said.
They were on the ‘Bourke mail’ train which ploughed into the engine of a stationary goods train at 9pm on Friday August 23.
Senior officers of the railway department back then marvelled that no one was killed the Sunday Mirror reported.
Eleven of the injured were still in Dubbo Hospital two days after the crash but only with cuts and bruises.
