As part of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week activities during May 20-26, Lifeline Central West Dubbo will be distributing fortune cookies with details inside of how to access free help.
“The cookies are a way of saying that if you have a gambling problem your fortune may depend on finding help,’’ said Rob Benton, gambling and financial counsellor with Lifeline Central West.
“We have found in the past that affected people are sometimes reluctant to approach us when we do our outreach activities. These cookies are a friendly way of spreading the message that we are approachable, we’re here and we’re ready to help both problem gamblers and their loved ones to make their lives better.’’
Lifeline Central West Dubbo is one of more than 50 organisations throughout the state delivering the NSW Government’s Gambling Help counselling program to communities through face-to-face counselling. People can also seek help 24 hours a day through the Gambling Help Line on 1800 858 858 or by email or instant messaging at Gambling Help Online.
“This Responsible Gambling Awareness Week we are encouraging anyone touched by problem gambling in the local government areas specified to make contact with us,’’ Mr Benton said.
“Don’t leave it until things become really drastic. Take hold of your life and finances now and let us help you change your future for the better. We have seen and helped many people just like you in the past and we welcome your call.’’
