Organiser Maurice Campbell was ecstatic with the success of the service and the number of people who travelled far and wide to attend.
“I hope that a crowd keeps coming and that we finally achieve what we started,” he said of the work done on the Bodangora War Memorial.
“It’s always going to be a work in progress, always ongoing.”
The Holy Trinity Choir sang for the event and Father Matthew Smedley conducted the opening prayer.
“What were these men really like?” Maurice Campbell asked in his key address.
“They were normal men who did extraordinary things. Only their humour and mateship kept them going.”
“The sacrifices were made for us and all Australians. I hope you have the opportunity to visit the Western Front or Gallipoli.
“You will have an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.”
