Ms Barton opened her business, Four Cats Coffee, on July 15 in the old printing building which housed the Wellington Times for many years.
The building has gone through renovations and now houses not only the coffee shop but physiotherapy, speech pathology and an occupational therapist office.
Ms Barton said she is a proud cat lover, so it was fitting to name the coffee shop after her own beloved pets.
Although the business has only recently just opened its doors, Ms Barton said customers, including locals and visitors, have been regularly coming in to check out the store.
"It's a steep learning curve. I've never opened my own coffee shop before," she explained.
"But it's going really good."

And the support she has received from the community and other Wellington businesses has also been invaluable.
"It's a beautiful community... and Jess Gough from Jespresso has been so helpful and encouraging," Ms Barton said.
As well as coffee, Ms Barton hand makes her food and locally sources the milk from Dubbo's Little Big Dairy Co, the coffee beans from Orange's Bill's Beans and the sourdough from Olive-A-Twist in Mudgee.
