Incoming club president, Darren Ah See, confirmed all coaching roles have been filled ahead of the 2018 season.
Chris Ah See will join Trent Forrest in coaching reserve grade, Daniel Ah See and Steven Matheson will take on women’s league tag, and Ben Bruce the Under 18s.
“All coaches had the same coaching positions with the Wellington Cowboys last season except Chris Ah See,” he said.
“The new Cowboys committee decided that the coaches did a great job under difficult circumstances this year and reappointed them for the 2018 season.”
Ah See said the club will continue its rebuilding phase come 2018 with recruitment of high caliber players on the cards to compliment local talent.
“We have been talking to a few high quality players from out of town though we expect most of the players will be ones that played with the Cowboys this year,” he said.
“The first grade side really struggled this season and this was mainly due to players having to play both reserves and first grade for most of the year.
“We intend to address this with the club and players in 2018 and we hope the new signings will not only bring experience and skill to the club, but also want to make all senior players want to be successful and play well for the club and the town.
“The players we are talking too would really give a big boost to the club and the town.”
Ah See said the club will perform at a higher standard across all grades should the issue be addressed early.
“We were runners-up in reserve grade this year which was a massive effort particularly as most of the players had to play two games each week,” he said.
“The committee wants the club to be competitive in all grades for the 2018 season and that we field players in all grades for all games.
“The club really struggled this year with a shortage of players, particularly on away games, and if the club is to be successful this needs to be addressed.
“Players will be expected to be committed to training and travelling if they are to be a part of the Wellington Cowboys for 2018.
“As long as the players turn up week in and week out and give 100 per cent, this is all I ask.”
Those interested in playing are encouraged to attend a meet and greet barbecue at Kennard Park on Sunday, December 17 from 11am. It will double as a registration day.
