A major police operation was undertaken on the streets of Wellington this morning culminating in the arrest of Anthony Smith.
Earlier in the week Mr Smith was able to elude police in Wellington, escaping a police cordon after being involved in a foot pursuit with police.
Mr Smith was wanted in relation to several offences and was the subject of a warrant. He has been on the run for sometime.
Inspector Dan Skelly said the man was arrested without incident around 10am and will face court on Thursday at Wellington.
"Mr Smith has been a regular on our Facebook page's "Most Wanted" section for some time,” he said.
“He is one of a number of people we are looking for that are wanted on warrants.
“These people need to be apprehended and placed before a court to be dealt with.
“The police did a great job in apprehending Smith and we are pleased with the amount of community support we have received from our Facebook postings."
