The exhibition was held in conjunction with Springfest in September and attracted hundreds of entries from as far away as Queensland.
It’s not unusual for the exhibition to gain international attention, with Kate saying it has earned itself a reputation among artists all over the country.
The competition was judged by Wellington’s Dr Eris Flemming who ruled Kate’s painting, an areal view of Sydney, as the major prize winner.
Kate said she won the same award four years ago with a dance painting called “Fox Trot”.
“It was a great privilege [to win again this year] because I have such great respect for the artwork of Eris Flemming,” she said.
“So to receive first prize and to have his respect meant a great deal to me.”
