Sixty-one Year 6 students from Wellington Public School attended the transition where they took part in lessons from all mandatory Key Learning Areas – English, mathematics, science, HSIE and PDHPE.

PHDPE teacher, Brooke George, said the transition is an important step for students in their final term of primary school education.

”We believe it is important to address the expectations surrounding their role as a student at Wellington High School before they get here in 2018,” she said.

“It is a perfect opportunity to introduce the students to our policies and procedures, and for many, a different way of learning.

“We also hope that we can foster their excitement for high school in 2018, or at the very least, alleviate some of their concerns.”

High school principal, Rod Cosier, was pleased to see enrollments for 2018 double on the current year.

“The Year 6 students from Wellington Public School were a credit to their school,” he said.

“As I visited the classes they were engaged in, it was pleasing to see the attention they were giving our staff.

“The students were excited by the material presented and displayed great respect to all those around them.

“We are looking forward to their attendance at our school in 2018".

Year 7 Year Advisor for 2018 is Miss Tarni Hawkins supported by Mrs Brooke George relieving as the Head Teacher of Transition.
