The welcome rain on Monday afternoon was heavy enough to cancel Monday night’s competition, but the clear blue skies on Sunday were perfect for Wellington Little Athletics’ Gala Day.
Little athletes travelled from Gilgandra, Coonamble, Coonabarabran, Nyngan, Narromine, Gulgong, Mudgee, Parkes and Dubbo to join the local athletes in a day of friendly competition.
More than 70 athletes ranging from Under 6s and up competed in a range of track and field events throughout the day.
The gala day made for the perfect practise ahead of this weekend’s zone carnival in Narromine.
Organisers said the Wellington club received positive feedback from a number of visitors who complimented the club on a well-run event.
It is reported that several athletes from Gilgandra broke personal best performances on the day which made for a promising result in the lead-up to the zone carnival.
Members of Wellington Little Athletics wish all the Wellington athletes competing at the zone carnival this weekend all the very best, remembering to always try your best and have fun!
Due to the rain Little Athletics was called off again this week. As of 11am on Tuesday, November 14 Wellington had recorded 6.4mm of rain, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
