More than 500 people passed through the gates of the Geurie Sportsground before midday on Saturday in what organisers reported was a record overall crowd of 2500 people. 

Geurie Rodeo Committee president, Greg Frewin, said the day was a huge success featuring a good mix of local competitors alongside some of the state’s finest riders.

“There was a good, steady crowd throughout the day and the main performance was absolutely packed,” he said.

“The quality of competition was good, particularly the junior and novice events throughout the day which featured some of the best cowboys and cowgirls from throughout the country.

“As did the evening performance, especially in the saddle bronc which had some of the top competitors in the state.”

Frewin said the day went off without a hitch, despite a decision to squeeze Sunday’s events into Saturday to avoid the rain forecast for the following day.

“We ended up tacking the Jackpot events onto the end of the Saturday events due to the heavy rain that was predicted for Sunday morning,” he said.

“It was good because not only did we have a great rodeo but everyone was happy that there was rain coming as well.” 

Frewin wished to thank all the volunteers involved in the organisation of the event which he described as a “community effort”. 

“The committee couldn’t be happier with the way the day went off,” he said.

“It was incident free, lots of happy faces, lots of people through the games, lots of money raised for the local P&C and will ensure we can put on something bigger and better next year.”

“I would like to thank all the community members who helped in the lead-up, on the day and afterwards without whom it wouldn’t be possible.”
