Councillor Anne Jones was elected deputy mayor also for a period of two years.
Council will reconvene for an extraordinary meeting as soon as practical in order to confirm a range of matters including the formation and composition of Council’s Standing Committees, council representation on other committees and the dates, times and locations of future meetings.
The mayor and councillors will also be participating in a variety of briefings and meetings over the coming weeks with meetings with state and federal local members noted as a priority for the new mayor.
As arrangements with the mayor, deputy mayor and councillors are being put in place, council’s services, projects and initiatives continue as normal. Information on council meetings including the next extraordinary meeting will be made on council’s website.
Free Cuppa for the Driver
Local businesses in the Dubbo Regional Council area are now invited to register for the 2018 phase of the successful Free Cuppa for the Driver campaign which will operate once again from 1 March to 31 May 2018.
The scheme encourages visiting drivers to stop at participating businesses for a free cup of tea or coffee to take a break from driving long distances.
Council will provide the marketing and resources while businesses provide the free tea and/or coffee.
This scheme is a win for everyone involved. It’s a win for road safety as drivers take a rest break, a win for local villages, towns and cities as they attract increased visitors and a win for businesses who attract customers.
The closing date for phase eight registrations is Friday October 6.
If your business would like to participate in the Free Cuppa for the Driver scheme then please contact Jayne Bleechmore on 6801 4000 or email jayne.bleechmore@dubbo.nsw.gov.au.

Liberty Swing to be part of new playground
Accessibility advocate Tracy Hanna presented Dubbo Regional Council with a cheque for $29,375 to go towards making a new Dubbo playground inclusive and accessible.
Ms Hanna raised the money for the installation of a liberty swing, a swing which can be used by people in wheelchairs, in the new playground being built at Elizabeth Park, part of the Dubbo Regional Botanic Gardens.
The playground has been designed with accessibility for all abilities and ages to partake in physical and active play, including exploring, climbing, tunnels and hills.
There will also be a range of passive spaces for other activities such as yoga, pilates and reading spaces.
The design of the playground also allows for a Senior Fitness Centre to be built which is designed to help members of our senior community to maintain fitness, strength, coordination and confidence.
The playground is being funded as part of the Stronger Communities Fund and is expected to be completed by May 2018.
