The Association is now under the leadership of Nic Cosier, a very keen young man who has played Junior cricket at a high level.
Cosier has been associated with senior cricket for Dubbo Macquarie Cricket Club and has been a main player and captain of the Wellington representative team for many years.
A huge thank you to Jason Ryan who held the role as president for some 11-12 years, possibly longer, so senior cricket could continue in Wellington. Without his leadership of the Association and representative teams senior cricket might have been another sport that has died in this town. A great job well done to him and his family for their support.
Ryan will sit on as vice president to assist Cosier.
SENIORS
Seniors will be taking to Pioneer Park on October 7 and at this stage looks like eight teams will compete which will alleviate a bye.
All team delegates will receive a draw and one will appear weekly in this paper, Facebook and web page. Representative Senior Cricket - if there are any players who wish to play, please contact Nic Cosier.
The first game is in the Western Zone KO on October 15 at home against Gulgong.
JUNIORS
The junior cricket season will kick on on October 14 and similar to last season teams have been entered into the Dubbo Junior Cricket Association.
This year it appears only two teams have registered in the Under 12s, but players have found clubs to play with in Dubbo for 14s and 16s.
The preferred Dubbo Macquarie Cricket Club pathway for 14s was full and overflowing which meant finding other clubs who needed players. Next season will see Wellington again with Under 14s teams.
The two Under 12s teams have five coaches and managers who have volunteered their time and between them all they will soon be sorting out who is taking what teams.
At this stage the number of home games isn’t known but after the October 9 meeting and revised draw the Association should know.
Two registration days have already been held, but a third will be held when school recommences with the venue to be advised. In the meantime if you wish to register, please contact Rob Dimmick or Harry Broome.
The Milo In2 Cricket/T20 Blast - four-five years to 10-11 years program will kick off on October 18 at Pioneer Park from 3.30 to 5pm. This program is a skills based, fun games session introducing players to the game.
Marie is waiting to see if costs are being subsidised again this year, but turn up and register if you haven't already done so.
