The Geurie Goats Rugby Union Club celebrated the 2017 season with a presentation night at major sponsor the Mitchell Inn Hotel Geurie.

The Goats ended their season second on the ladder, the most successful season the club has had in 15 years.
Club president, Matt Dowell, said there were a number of highlights throughout the season, including a strong pack who were recognised through perpetual awards on the night.
“Highlights for the year were retaining the Sam Chandler Cup for the second year in a row against Yeoval away from home and to our representative players Nela and Moavuka on making Central West Rugby,” he said.
Nela Matakaionga was awarded Players Player, while Best Forward went to Siua Sinisa and Best Back to Moavuka Kavauka.
Most Improved was scooped up by Harry May, the Publicans Award went to Max Edwards, and Beau Thompson was presented the Coach’s Award.
Presidents Award taken out by Nash Forgione, while Clubman of the Year went to Carol and Kelvin Tink, and the award for best waterboy went to Justine Fettell.
Dowell wished to thank all the volunteers and committee members who made the season possible.
“I would like to thank the committee of Martin Tink, Paul Mullen, Jono Marks and Paul Hausia and the following for their hard work through out the season; The Tink Family, Neil Burns, Shanara Dowell, Stephen Mitchell, Ray and Jill Fineran, and Stewart Edwards,” he said.
Dowell also thanked the players, sponsors and coaching staff Paul Hausia and Wayne Mallison for making 2017 a great success.

The Goats aim to further strengthen their squad with the return of NSW Country player, Filisione Pauta, in the combined GrainCorp Cup format for next season, which will be finalised by CWRU next month.
