At Dubbo last Thursday 6375 prime cattle penned in a typical drought yarding with large numbers of young calves and cattle lacking finish. However a good selection of trade cattle and heavy steers showing finish and grain-assisted were also available. Trade young cattle fell 6 to 13 cents, feeder steers dropped 8-13c while feeder heifers lost 17c, restocker young steers were down topping at 320c, heavy steers were 8c cheaper, heavy heifers lost 12c, cows were lower by 10-14c. Quotations: calves 255-325, steer vealers 224-292, heifer vealers 210-306, steer yearlings 226-320, heifer yearlings 172-280, heavy steers 238-279, bullocks 246-289, heavy heifers 120-255, light cows 153-168, medium cows 130-222, heavy cows 145-241 and bulls 180-268.
Friday at Dubbo 700 store cattle penned, with seasonal conditions worsening by the day, most producers opted to offload young cattle in the prime sale on the previous day. It was only a fair quality yarding and due to weather cows and calves were well supplied. The market was cheaper for all classes of young cattle and reflected the quality of the offering. Steer weaners sold from $330-790 to avg $558 or 272c/kg, the few yearling steers ranged from $530-920 to avg $755.60 or 259.4c/kg, heifer weaners traded from $265-565 to avg $435 or 229c/kg, heifer yearlings realised from $380-605 to avg $458, one pen of PTIC heifers made $550, the few PTIC cows sold from $800-940, cows and calves ranged from $630-1430, unjoined cows traded from $550-900.
At Dubbo on Monday 22,100 lambs penned in a fair quality yarding with some large consignments of Store lambs and Merinos. Only a fair selection of trade lambs and heavy lambs were of a lower standard than the previous sale. Processor light lambs were about firm, trade lambs firmed, finishing up $3-5, heavy weight lambs up to 26kg were firm while the heavier end lost $8, Merino lambs were firm to $2 cheaper with the trade weights selling from $96-133, restocker lambs made $108 and hoggets sold to $120. Quotations: light young lamb $43-108, medium young lamb $100-132, heavy young lamb $124-145, supermarket young lamb $151-155, light lamb $57-107, medium lamb $100-125, heavy lamb $115-141, supermarket lamb $134-177, export lamb $168-185.
