The NSW YAC has a statutory role to advise the NSW Government on issues of importance to young people, as well as monitor and evaluate youth-related policies and legislation.
Council members are sought from diverse locations, backgrounds and life experiences.
The NSW YAC provides an important avenue for children and young people in the local area to have a say on Government policies and programs.
I encourage young people in the Dubbo Electorate to apply to represent local youth and have a say on issues important to our community.
The feedback received from the Council plays an important role in assisting the NSW Government members like myself in developing effective policies and programs.
One of the key roles of the NSW YAC is to provide advice to the Advocate for Children and Young People.
Council membership is open to all NSW residents between the ages of 12 and 24. For more information and application forms please visit the Advocate for Children and Young People’s website www.acyp.nsw.gov.au or by call 9248 0970. Please note that applications close at 11.59pm on Saturday September 30.
VOLUNTARY ASSISSTED DYING BILL SURVEY
On the 10th of July I announced that I will survey the community before considering my position of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017. For some time now the issue of euthanasia and voluntary assisted dying has been a hot topic of debate and discussion for our nation. I believe it’s vital that you, the people of the Dubbo Electorate, are heard and counted. Voicing your opinion through the survey will best inform my decision when I represent the electorate on the floor of the NSW parliament to vote on the bill.
The survey results to date stand at 51.9% in favour of the bill, 42.7% opposed to the bill and 5.4% of people are undecided. I made a commitment that I would consult with the community before considering and voting on this Bill. I urge everyone who has an opinion on this key piece of legislation to complete the survey over the coming weeks either via facebook, on www.troygrant.com.au or a hard copy which can be obtained from my electorate office. The survey will remain open up until the week before bill being voted on in parliament. At this stage no date has been set for the bill to be voted on.
STRONGER COUNTRY COMMUNITIES
I would like to remind Council and residents across the Dubbo Regional Council area the applications for the NSW Governments Stronger Country Communities fund close on September 13. This fund is supporting rural and regional communities and is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for regional communities to benefit from significant investment in community infrastructure.
This is community driven with individuals and community groups encouraged to develop proposals with council. The fund will support infrastructure projects such as building or refurbishing school facilities, rest rooms, libraries, parks, walking and cycle pathways, health centres, country halls, swimming pools and showgrounds.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the State Governments $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to improve economic growth and productivity by investing in regional communities like ours.
For those living in the Narromine Shire and Mid-Western Regional Council areas your chance to submit applications for funding open on September 20th and close on October 18th. I encourage any individual or community group with a project in mind to contact council sooner rather than later.
