Teams have already begun their fight against cancer, with 2016 Orana Relay For Life’s highest fundraising team, Sainsbury Automotive, currently maintaining their position at the top. Sainsbury’s Automotive is working on fulfilling their goal to raise $3000 with $1193 already in the bank.
This is the third-year Sainsbury’s Automotive have taken part in Orana Relay For Life in support of a work colleague who was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Team captain, Jodie Morely understands that cancer is something that touches all Australians in some way, so their participation in Orana Relay For life is their way to help the cause.
Sainsbury Automotive have been incredibly busy fundraising, including getting their hands dirty at the Dubbo Show. Their team assisted in the clean-up of the show, wearing their Relay For Life shirts and donated the $1000 paid to them to their Relay For Life team.
They also have plenty more in store for their fundraising; leading up to the Relay. Sainsbury’s Automotive will be holding a BBQ at Aldi, Dubbo on 23rd September which Dubbo locals are encouraged to attend. The team will also be selling $2 raffle tickets for a chance to win one of three Isuzu Ute jackets worth $175 each from now up until the Relay.
Jodie highlights that the teams favourite part of Relay For Life is the community spirit and camaraderie.
“Relay is great because you spend time getting to know people in the community you may have never spoken to before,” she said.
“Everyone comes together to help beat cancer, and that is what makes Relay so important. We all have the same hope – that one day we can find a cure for cancer”.
