Pictorial records have recorded the vast amounts of water in and around the town during 1926, 1941, 1950, 1955 and 1956.
The main streets of Wellington have been inundated many times with relief coming from 1967 to present day with Burrendong Dam being built for flood mitigation and irrigation for many towns downstream.
A series of floods in1955-56 resulted in a changed design to allow for increased capacity.
Construction of Burrendong Dam was completed in 1967.
It was officially opened on August 18 by the Premier R W Askin.
