Gary Meizer has sold Jeans for Genes Day merchandise for the last 15 years since Spinal Muscular Atrophy claimed the life of his four-month-old cousin, Izak Humphries, in 2001.
The courier said he is well supported by the health service who over the years have contributed to his quest in raising vital funds to support genetic research.
Staff at the hospital were decked out in denim attire on Friday as they hosted a barbecue in support of the day.
Between the sale of merchandise and the barbecue, Gary estimates to have raised in excess of $1000 this year.
“Everyone is very supportive,” he said.
Proudly wearing his denim jacket peppered with Jeans for Genes Day badges from the last 15 years, Gary said his motivation is simple.
“I do it for Izak,” he said.
