Council is in the process of developing a master plan for the park, in consultation with the Wellington Cowboys Senior Rugby League Club, Wellington Redbacks Rugby Union Club and the Wellington Junior Rugby League Club.

Comment will also be sought from the public to develop to gauge their view.

The plan for the facility includes a re-alignment of the perimeter fence, a junior field and warm up area, a senior warm up area, improved car parking facilities and a scoreboard.

The upgrade of the facility will maximise its usage, council’s manager horticultural services Ian McAlister said in a report to council.

“Following an inspection of the facility by Dubbo Regional Council staff it was identified that Kennard Park was in a generally poor condition and needed a considerable amount of work to bring it up to an acceptable standard,” he said.

“It was also seen that there was an opportunity to work collaboratively with the clubs to develop a master plan that, once adopted, could assist in securing non-rate revenue for the future improvements to the facility.

“Additionally, it was seen that there were opportunities to encourage the general public to better utilise the area through the provision of improved recreational facilities including a fitness centre, playground and walking/fitness path around the perimeter of the ground.”

While the council has no funds allocated for the work, last year Andrew Gee announced $200,000 for the facility.

The draft master plan will be placed on public exhibition for 28 days. If the master plan is adopted by council, a letter will be written to Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee regarding the funds.
