The competition is celebrating its 10th year and has a $10,000 total prize pool. The event is a part of the ‘Back to Yeoval Weekend’ which runs from Friday to Sunday.
The shearing contest attracts competitors from around Australia, allowing novices and experienced shearers to showcase their skills.
The shearer in first place in the open section will receive $2000.
The weekend commemorates Banjo Patterson, who lived in the town in his youth, and his poem: Mulga Bill’s Bicycle.
Highlights include the coveted Open Shear Award, the Mulga Jill Shear and the Intertown competition between Yeoval, Cumnock and Wellington.
The day will include food, refreshments, children’s entertainment, wool spinning demonstrations and much more. Souvenirs can also be purchased. Yeoval’s Royal Hotel will transform into a mock shearing shed, complete with a competition stage and sheep pens.
